Sensors and visibility

What you can see, and what radar, sonar and fire-control fittings add.

What you can see

In clear weather you see every ship that is not behind an island. At night and in fog you see only a few hundred metres; Maps gives the distance for each sea. Islands block sight, radar, sonar and gunfire alike, so they are cover.

Fittings

Radar extends what you see in fog and darkness. Range finders and directors make weapons more accurate or longer-ranged. None of them adds damage.

  • Only the best fitting counts for each effect. Two range finders are no better than one.
  • A fitting stops working at 10% of its integrity, and radar and fire control do nothing under water.
  • A phased-array radar does a second job: some guns engage aircraft, and vertical launchers guide their missiles, only while one is working. A missile already locked on keeps its lock if the radar is then lost.
